The Don't Eat Dinner Diet

So I've come the decision that there's only one thing to do. Go on a diet. I've decided to call this diet the Don't Eat Dinner Diet. I'm coprighting the term right now.

The Don't Eat Dinner Diet is simple. Eat what you want for breakfast and lunch. Eat away, with gay abandon (well, within order). The crunch comes from not eating (as you may have guessed it) dinner.

You may say "Crazy, worse than South Beach!" but I insist that eating after 6pm is the main reason I stay fat. So, oatmeal for breakfast, salad for lunch, afternoon snacks from the coffee room and then a light meal before six. After that nothing.

There'll be a beautiful rumbling in the stomach but you won't care. You'll feel lightheaded after a few hours in the post-work gym but you'll be going to bed soon so you won't care. You get to spend more time with loved ones, or doing things that actually mean something to you. You can break the diet as often as you wish (within moderation) as long as you spend most of the time not eating dinner.

This diet is not as crazy as it sounds. Most of us have completed our daily intake of our calorie quota by 6pm anyhow. Stopping eating is about the best thing we can do for ourselves.

Crazy? I don't think so. I can eat anything I want (within reason). And at any time. No restrictions, no counting, no ridiculous nitpicking. Just no dinner. It's the diet.

Hey...I created this diet a year ago...I get the patent. :) Just wanted to let you know that the weeks that I do have really good and continuous losses, are the weeks I do not eat after 6!! I swear. I will eat dinner, but early and I get in my nightly exercise...WA-LAH...wanna be partners on the patent thing? I could really use the money!

Lisa, do you exercise after dinner? This is a tremendous problem for me. I generally exercise after work and then eat as much as I can stuff into my face -- the more protein the better. Generally doesn't work. I'll try the other way around but this is hard if you've got a partner-in-crime who doesn't share the same 'belief structure' as you do.

I did this 6 years ago and lost 50 lbs..i mean I ate whatever I wanted during the day and as much (one time I tallied like 3000 calories for one day!!!)... sometimes if I was going to bed early i would quit at 5pm to give myself atleast 3 or 4 hours to digest before bed.... but it works and once you lose say like 10 or 20lbs you start eating less during the day and you gain energy so you actually want to exercise..when I hit a plateau after about 40 lbs I started walking at night and the last 10 came off....awesome! It is the only thing I have ever been able to lose weight with and stick to. I only "cheated" on special occaisions or one weekend night every once in awhile! I store all my calories at night apparently too :|

Is oatmeal for breakfast and a salad for lunch considered "eating with gay abandon"? It seems pretty restrictive to me...

I do this each spring to lose that 10 lbs before bathing suit season. It is the ONLY diet that has ever worked for me. I eat cereal with fruit for breakfast, whatever I want for lunch (within reason) lasagna, sandwich, chicken with veggies or potatoes even. *Try to eat a bit later in the afternoon vs. noon.

I don't completely skip dinner, but I make it TINY, TINY. I have just a small bowl of cereal and berries, a 2 peices of sushi, or a tiny salad with a couple of bites of chicken on it (and no fat dressing). It's the easiest diet for me and the best results.

I hear this methos slows down metabolisim, and puts body into starvation mode, thus preventing weight loss, but I am here to say it works and big time! I eat macdonalds for lunch(occasionally), choci bars, but also I make sure I still eat my fruit, vegies, meat and carbs in a day, and take a multi vitamin! So basically yep eat what you like! Every morning my tummy is a little flatter, and I have cured my insomnia. Best ever!

I just read an article about the oldest living man, 113 years old, who says he skipped dinner for the past 35 years. He is in perfect health and very fiesty. He says that he eats everything, drinks coffee and breakfast and lunch, eats alot of fruit and drinks alot of water. He wakes up at 6.30 in the morning, which is great for a senior citizen- I always hear how old people struggle to sleep and get up at ungodly hours. I think that when you eat dinner, your body needs to work on digesting it and so your sleep and healing that happens within sleep get less attention. Im a believer.

The thinnest I have ever been was when I was on this diet. I did this diet for 9 or so months and lost 20 lbs. And it is true, I ate whatever I wanted. In fact, I would go on binges everyday at around 3pm. The problem is, once I reached college I couldn't maintain it for social reasons and have since gained 30 lbs. Years later, I have decided to go back on this diet. When I first did it I didn't eat solid foods after 4pm, so I would have smoothies or soups. Once 6pm came around nothing went into my mouth. This time, however, I am deciding to be less restrictive and allow solid foods until 6pm.

I have tried this diet today and lost 4 pounds in my sleep. Its because I did two workouts at the gym once in the afternoon and the other at night. And I ate only once. I had made a large peanutbutter smoothie with veggies and fruit and brewers yeast protien powder and vitamins, bee pollen, bee propolis, royal jelly.(I'm a health nut). Before I went to bed I had a glass of water with brewers yeast and a big glass of chamomile tea. I weighed 236 at night. In the morning I weighed 231. I was shocked because I have plateaued at 236 for 2weeks before this. I am a believer now. And I will do this for the next month or so.

Hello.. So I just wanted to share my thoughts with you about not eating at night. I started doing this for a couple of days and I don't eat anything after 7p.m and from 62kg I went to 60kg. Is this possible or is it just fluids? If I start eating at night again will I gain the kgs back? I also want to add that during the day I eat only healthy foods and to be more specific I eat breakfast, lunch and a snack around 6p.m

Yes this works. I did this about 10 years ago and lost loads. I did it unintentionally while doing contract work and staying in a hotel. The evening food was so gross I needed up not eating it. So big breakfast and big lunch, run in the evening and no dinner. I would also point out that I was in my youth so also drinking a bit in the evenings and probably higher metabolism. After 3 weeks noticed I had lost weight must have been a stone or two. Back on the diet now after trying loads of others and will see how it goes.

I would really like everyone's input on this. I've thought seriously about not eating after 6pm, to try to bump up my weight loss. My thing is that I do all my work outs after work and then I'm really hungry after I work out (which is about 6:30-7:00 pm). I've heard if you don't refuel your body after you work out it slows down weight loss. Thoughts, comments?

I started this diet about 10 years ago. I also lifted weights pretty regularly while on the diet. So my gains were tremendous. I was fat all my life and this diet did it for me. I have since gotten back to my old fat ways. I will be implementing this diet again to see if it can bring my old self back. This diet does work.

I suddenly stopped eating dinner as I am living with Chinese people who have a certain way of eating, with lunch as the main meal. I am a little hungry as I write this... but I have lost all the weight I put on from my office job over several years. Everyone has remarked how much weight I've lost. Every day is an indulgence in deliciousness, but I barely eat anything after 6pm. My abs are showing again. It sounds bonkers but it works.

Not eating Dinner is more common sense than labelling it as a diet. Unless of course you haven't eaten at all since waking in the am. I've been doing this for 12 years now.

Eating breakfast fuels your day, eating lunch fuels your evening. At night time when you're sleeping it's maintenance time for the body. Cleanup, repair and healing, not digestion on unnecessary food. If you continue to eat at night that food will just clog up inside you while you sleep (lying down).

Wake up with an empty stomach, gastric juices ready for digestion the instant food enters your stomach. If you're used to eating big in the evening you'll probably get hunger pangs but if you drink water they will disappear quickly, and stay away. You'll actually get healthily tired and will sleep soundly to you wake, naturally wake. Eating at night, can disrupted sleep, and cause trouble getting up in the am without some sort of ailment, such as head ache or back ache. Anyway, for all your skeptics out there, try it for a few weeks. It's not just about losing weight it's a way of life to keep your body working properly
